A bitty aboot us - Radio Eastward in Buchan

Hospital broadcasting began in Buchan in the early 90’s on a very modest scale with a record deck situated in the basement of a residential home for the elderly in Peterhead. Radio Eastward was formed in 1992 and moved to new premises in 1996 where 2 studios were built and they began broadcasting to 7 locations in Peterhead via BT land lines.

A major fundraising initiative was launched and the station upgraded to new equipment and licences obtained which allowed it to broadcast and receive FM signals. This provided a platform to increase the number of receiving locations and also expand the geographical reach of the station - it can broadcast to locations within a 25km radius of the transmitter. After another two changes of premises, the station is now located in a prime site in the centre of Peterhead – 48 Marischal Street – overlooking Drummers corner.

In November 2005, a new committee was formed, in partnership with The New Hope Trust, to manage and run the station. Building on the tremendous efforts, infrastructure and experience of the previous 13 years the new team are looking forward to developing Radio Eastward for the future  – bringing a high quality service to their current listeners and to many more new ones.

Broadcasting on 48.475 Mhz to 15 locations across Buchan - 24hours per day / 7 days a week - we are always looking for volunteers and financial support. We currently have 12 presenters and a few more in the pipeline – but more are required.

We appreciate the support of our volunteers and financial supporters – without them it would not work.

And finally – we thank all those who listen to our programs – without you it would not be worth it.
